The AFLNT Remote Projects hold a special place in communities across the Northern Territory.
Harnessing the passion and pride Indigenous people have for Australian Rules Football, the remote projects provide regular and structured community-based football competitions and programs with a focus on improving school attendance and community development.
These programs encourage positive social, education and employment outcomes by:
- Facilitating community-based football competitions – Senior men’s, senior women’s and junior competitions
- Game development programs including; Auskick and Thunder Juniors programs
- AFL coaching and umpire courses, Level 1 accreditation
- Facilitating remote football carnivals
- Support AFL’s Next Generation Academies engagement with youth in talent and welfare programs
- Facilitation of the MLLLC’s education program
AFLNT Remote projects are led by a team of Remote Development Managers (RDMs). Currently
RDMs live and work in Central Australia, Lajamanu, Wadeye, Tiwi Islands, Maningrida, Elcho Island, Gove and Groote Eylandt.
RDMs work closely with partner organisations and communities to ensure programs deliver location specific and targeted messaging for positive lifestyle choices, road safety, anti-violence, alcohol and substance abuse and nutrition.
