Telstra has this week supplied two new eight-seat Toyota Prados to the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre (MLLLC) as part of a three-year partnership to help the Foundation support the education activities of the MLLLC.

“The Centre provides a unique sporting and education program for indigenous students from remote areas in the Territory,” said Nic Danks, Regional General Manager for Telstra in Northern Australia.

“We are pleased to have undertaken this new community partnership that will see us provide these fully maintained 4WD vehicles for the Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre.”

“We currently work in eight communities and surrounding regions across the NT, delivering programs that inspire and engage communities and promote education through the power of football,” said Michael Long.

“Football is the vehicle that makes the difference to individuals and community life. These programmes also deliver frontline services, education, health, employment, social acceptance and provide a safe and healthy lifestyle for all Territorians to enjoy.”

“These new vehicles will help us deliver these programs and will allow us to divert money previously used for vehicles into providing additional services and experiences for the students. We are very grateful for Telstra’s support and look forward to continuing to work with them into the future.”

AFLNT CEO Stuart Totham said the support of Telstra allowed the organisation’s focus to remain on delivering the MLLLC program.

“We are very appreciative to have the backing of the local Telstra team. This kind gesture goes beyond their core business function but sets us up to focus on delivering our core business in the MLLLC program, and having a positive impact on the lives of even more young Indigenous Territorians,” he said.

The Michael Long Learning and Leadership Centre provides a program to improve student leadership and engagement in education through a 15-week community-based program and one-week leadership camp at the Centre. The Centre has accommodation facilities for up to 72 people, a state of the art gym and pool/recovery centre, education spaces and corporate facilities for functions and events.
